今週火曜日のファイナンシャルタイムズに Mortality Bonds （「死亡率債」という訳語が正しいかどうかは不明です）に関する記事が載っていました（ちょっと専門的な話かもしれませんので、興味ない方は読み飛ばしてください）。

Axa, the French insurer, yesterday celebrated the macabre success of its latest idea to remove risk from its balance sheet by selling €345m ($442m) of mortality bonds to investors.
Investors snapped up the four-year bonds, the first of their kind to be issued by a principal insurer, and they were almost four times subscribed.
以前から Mortality Bonds, Mortality Swaps などの話は出ていましたが、ついに出たか、という感じです。
４つのトランシェにわけるようで、S&P で AAA から BB+ （ジャンク！） まであるようです。クーポンはBB+のもので、3M LIBOR + 500bp だとか。そして最も注目されるデフォルトの条件ですが、フランス（60%）、米国(15%)、日本(25%)における死亡率が、あらかじめ定められた率を２年連続して上回ると発生するように設計されているようです。
これによって、発行体であるアクサは Mortality の新たなヘッジ先を手に入れたというわけですね。保険会社のリスクの担い手として、再保険会社がある（どれほどのリスクを取ってくれるのか詳しくは知りません）わけですが、サイズ的にも限界があったわけです。今回のスキームによって、リスクの担い手を幅広く資本市場に求められるようになったということで、けっこうインパクトのあるディールなのではないでしょうか。今回はもっぱら機関投資家に販売されたようですが（販売は Swiss Re, Lehman Brothers, and Ixis corporate and investment bank）。
